The Great Sipsey River Adventure 36 years later

This week is the 36th anniversary of the Great Sipsey River Adventure. The highlights included a nasty river squirrel for dinner, a sleeping bag that caught on fire and, oh yeah, getting lost. Here’s my 2007 essay on the trip:

The gang had expected that it would take only a couple of days to travel from southern Tuscaloosa County all the way to near where the Sipsey flows into the Tennessee-Tombigbee River. That trip, we learned later, would have taken more than a week. Our three days’ worth of provisions would not have been enough.
